DAY 145

Karson finally got his no. 4 trache in last night. He is doing very well with it. They are buttoning it this morning and will keep it buttoned over the weekend. If everything goes well, they will take out his trache on Monday. Buttoning his trache means that he will breathe normally again through his mouth and nose. He has to make sure he gets the swallowing down and coughing down perfect before they take the trache out. We practice every day doing these things on command and he is getting good at doing them. I didn't realize that the brain controls all these things until this happened. I am grateful for all healthy brains. He has another infection. We are sending in a secretion sample to see if the infection is there. I truly believe that it is. He seems to be a magnet for infection. He is doing great at physical therapy. We ordered him some new braces for his elbows, wrists, knees and ankles. We are really working on getting him to be able to use his legs and arms again. I have been working with some very dedicated people in getting Karson to where we all want him to be. I am so grateful for the medical staff that has been with us in working so hard for Karson. Thanks for all the visitors, blog comments, prayers and love that all of you send to us. It is truly working......

  1. It was really good to see Karson. We thought he looked great! He sure loved seeing the babies, Briggs and Kycie. Karson, keep fighting. I know this is a long process, but you can do it, we know you can. Your Mom is so sweet to be there by your side so often. You guys all hang in there and don't give up. This challenge in your lives will only make you stronger and Karson will be back to his old self before you know it. We love you! Jace, Shelly and kids

  5. Go Karson! I know you will LOVE getting rid of that trache!!! Even tho it is just the beginning of your journey in restoring your speech, you are such an amazing kid, full of unending potential --and somehow you seem to receive miracles daily.

I feel angels all around you every time I see you. I ALWAYS leave your room as a better person than when I entered. As difficult as this is, I still have to tell you that I am grateful for you because you bring a sense of fight and determination back into the lives of not just me, but everyone that is watching this battle. Karson, you are one of my biggest heroes. I love you!

The unconditional love and support of family is crucial in overcoming the challenges in each of our lives---we stand in awe of your team! Don't ever forget that we love you and pray for you. May you be blessed as you continue this amazing and difficult journey called "life." Carrie, David, and your buddy Bryan (who I promise, has not forgotten you.)
