DAY 132
Karson is so good about following commands now. He is wide awake and does everything you tell him. His hands and arms are contracted and don't move much. His legs are pretty stiff also but he really tries hard to move them when you ask him too. I had a hand specialist look at his hands and the splints that we were using aren't the best ones for Karson so we ordered different ones. With physical therapy, Karson will be able to get movement back in both arms and legs. He continues to have his trache buttoned with his speaking valve on and is forming words. It will be so much easier to form them with his trache removed. He does well with swallowing, coughing and making noises on command. We have an appointment with a specialist that can tell us when the trache can come out, hopefully either today or tomorrow. The specialist was just going to stop by the rehab facility because he has another trache patient that he has to look at. Karissa put some new music on Karson's Ipod and he is loving all the new tunes, it really isn't music to my ears, but he is enjoying it so that's all that matters. Kass gave him a buzz haircut and it is keeping him cooled down for the summer. He loves all your daily visits and your blog comments. Karson is a very private person so I didn't know how this would work, having his life spelled out for everyone to see, but he seems to be handling it well. We all might be in trouble when he can talk again. Thanks for the continued support from all of you.

Karson you gorgeous kid! You looked so great last night and I have no doubt AT ALL that you ARE awake. The new tunes were playing & YOU were happy! You look much cooler with your hair short. I am so proud of the work you have done to recover so well. Even with the trache in I heard you make a sustained sound -and THAT can't be easy. Keep working sweet thing and I will see you soon.

' He is wide awake and does everything you tell him '
ReplyDeleteA beautiful sentence. Right On Karson ! It was your goal to wake up and you have done it, speaking completely will be next, then walking/running :) You are winning, you will win, keep the faith in life and belief in self and the people around you. A new look, new music, it is Summer time, you are mobile with your wheel chair, the possibilities are endless. Work daily with your healthly recovery, only have positive thoughts about yourself and your good health. A huge thank you for your wonderful family, friends, the medical staff and all the people from a distance who support you with good thoughts and positive prayers. Take care and speak with you soon, Bruce

Does that mean he's awake and no longer in his coma? Since he can hear his visitors and all. Hope all is going well.
